Of the rare father-daughter duos in country music history, the Kendalls were the most successful, racking up a series of chart hits, and winning a Grammy for Best Country Vocal by a Duo or Group, and the CMA Awards Single of the Year for "Heaven's Just A Sin Away". Jeannie with her powerful, great and distinctive soprano voice sang lead on most of the duo's hit songs, while her father Royce, sang the harmony and played acoustic guitar. Jeannie's voice has often been compared to that of Dolly Parton.

In the years since her father's passing, Jeannie has pursued a solo career, recording two solo albums, including a self-titled acoustic/bluegrass CD on Rounder Records that features two songs recorded with Royce and several guest artists. These guest artists included Alan Jackson, Ricky Skaggs, Alison Krauss, Rhonda Vincent, and Johnny Long, who had been the Kendalls' backup singer on the road. The second was "All The Girls I Am," a much harder edged pop/country CD released on Golden.

The Kendalls released sixteen albums on various labels, including Ovation Records, Mercury Records and MCA/Curb Records. They had three number one Billboard hits, "Heaven's Just a Sin Away", "Sweet Desire", and "Thank God for the Radio". Eight of their singles climbed into Billboard's Top Ten, with twenty-two of their singles reaching the top 40 on the Billboard country singles chart.
