Dr.
Gerald D. Murray was born in
Louisville, Kentucky and grew
up in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
There he developed a love for
country music while growing up
with his uncle, who was a
walking encyclopedia of country
music.
In the
70's, Gerald became one of Hank
Williams, Jr.'s rowdy friends
touring the countryside
together. All the while, Gerald
was an astute student learning
all he could from Hank's
manager at the time, J.R.
Smith.
Although
Gerald never managed Hank
Williams, Jr., an agreement was
reached between Gerald, Hank,
Jr., and his manager, J.R.
Smith for Gerald to take over
management of Hank within a
sixty day period. Fate played
its role during this sixty days
and Hank had his first number
one hit in five years since,
"Family Tradition ". This caused J.R.
to keep Hank another nine
years.
This did,
however, open another door and
at the recommendation of J.R.
Smith. Gerald took the reins of
George Jones' career, whom he
managed from 1981 -
1984.
For the next several
years, Gerald spent time with
his friend who had worked on
the road with the George Jones
show. That friend's name being
Vern Gosdin.

During this time,
Gerald continued his education,
graduating from the University
of North Alabama (Florence, AL)
in 1993 and 1996. In 2000,
Gerald graduated from NSU
University (Ft. Lauderdale,
FL), earning a Doctorate in
Business and graduating in the
top 5% of his
class of 549
students.
Later
that year, Gerald returned to
the national spotlight when he
signed a management agreement
with his friend, the legendary,
Vern Gosdin. Since then he has
taken the Vern Gosdin show
coast to coast and remained
with Gosdin until his death in
2009.
Gerald authored a book titled, True Life Stories About
"The Voice" Vern Gosdin.
This book is a collection of personal
stories as told by Vern Gosdin's manager
and agent, Dr. Gerald Murray, written two years prior to Vern's passing. You won't
find these stories anywhere else.
Awarded the 'Country Publication of the
Year' Award for 2007 by the Alabama Country
& Gospel Music Association. The book can be purchased here on our website, or at Amazon.
On April
12, 2012, Gerald signed a
management and exclusive
booking contract with the
country great, Doug Stone. In 2014 he signed the same
agreement with former Universal
Music Group/MCA
Nashville artist, Ashton Shepherd. At
this same time Gerald formed
Gerald Murray Music, LLC
with legendary
musician and personal
friend, Mike McGuire of
the multi-platinum and award-winning band Shenandoah, to help guide the
business. Many great
artist have been
added to the booking
roster, and likely there are
many more that will be added in the
near future.
In 2019, Dr. Murray was the recipient of "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the
Kentucky Country Music Association. Along with his award presented by Kenneth
Reynolds, president of the KCMA, Dr. Murray received a personal letter from the
Governor of Kentucky, Matthew G. Bevin. In the letter, Bevin not only gave
recognition to Murray's successful career and roster of talented artists whose
careers Murray has helped to shape, Bevin also gave recognition to Murray's
service in the military at Ft. Knox, his dedication to country music, and how
well Murray has represented the state of Kentucky as a person.
Dr.
Murray has the background and
the roster -- that has and will
continue to make waves in the
country music
industry.
